Information about Redcliffe Hockey Aquaturf

The Aquaturf SL is the most technically advanced ‘dry’ hockey surface in the world today. The “Spring Lock” yarn developed for T.E.A.M. Sports Surfaces by Tapex Yarns Australia is built to withstand the harshest conditions and treatment and still look and perform with unequalled performance. Although the Aquaturf SL is a ‘dry’ surface therefore does not require watering, the surface plays just like a traditional ‘wet’ field.

In October 2006 the FIH Equipment Committee announced that the future of hockey lays with surfaces that can either drastically reduce the amount of water required to ‘wet-out’ the surface or do away completely with the water component. This announcement caused a stir among the synthetic grass manufacturers that were present at the meeting and many objections to this decision were voiced. T.E.A.M. Sports Surfaces however sat back comfortable with the knowledge that we had already developed a product that was seemingly tailor made for this announcement.

Months of research and development has seen the Aquaturf SL become the preferred choice of surface for many hockey clubs in Australia and across the world. Australia is not the only nation currently gripped by severe water shortages and many hockey clubs across the globe are looking for an alternative to the ‘wet’ surfaces currently offered but not wanting to go back to the old sand filled surfaces of yester-year.

There is no doubt that if the Aquaturf SL surface receives some rain that the surface will play even better and provide the perfect surface for the players to show off their individual and team skills but even when the surface is completely dry the playing surface will be enjoyed by all players as it offers the playing characteristics of a ‘wet’ surface with ball speed and bounce comparable to what you will find at the Queensland State Hockey Centre, Cairns Hockey, Rockhampton Hockey, Sunshine Coast Hockey and Labrador Hockey.

T.E.A.M. Sports Surfaces are too aware of the strain on water reserves especially in the Brisbane region and we are proud to say that the Aquaturf SL has been granted the use of the Smart Watermark logo in recognition of our efforts to reduce pressure on the reserves in our dams and catchments.

The new surface at the Mary Nairn Hockey Complex at Redcliffe is the first for Queensland and the board of the Redcliffe Hockey Club and Redcliffe Council deserve credit for recognising that the Aquaturf SL as the preferred surface for the players and the environment and to have top class hockey return to Redcliffe after several years of ‘away games’.
